Kick-Off 2020 with these New Year's Eve Party Tips

New Year’s Eve 2020 marks the end of a decade and deserves an all-out celebration that’s meant to be remembered for many years to come. After all, this special night marks sweet endings and sparks new hope for promising beginnings.

From the party motif to the food and drinks, we’ve rounded up the most fabulous New Year’s Eve party hosting ideas to inspire you. Here are the top tips on how to countdown to 2020 and greet it with a big bang!

1. Think about how many guests you are expecting and their general profile.

Hosting a New Year’s Eve Party for the young, 20-somethings will be very different from hosting for a mixed crowd composed of teenagers up to 60 and beyond, including babies and toddlers, which is typical if you’ll be entertaining family and relatives.

In the same way, you need to have an idea of the headcount. Are you expecting six up to a dozen guests only? Because then, you should think about making your dinner table the centerpiece for the occasion. However, if you’re expecting anywhere from 20 up to a hundred then, your hosting ideas will definitely take a different turn.

2. Go for a shiny, star-studded motif.

metallic golds

Whether you are expecting a few heads or more than enough people to fill an entire event venue, a New Year’s Eve Party calls for metallic golds, silvers, blues, and other metallic hues. Add the glitters for a glam boost, and, when you can, accent vases and centerpieces with rhinestones. If you have the time and the budget, have one part of your wall shining and shimmering from floor to ceiling with rhinestones!

3. Set up a bar table or a bar cart.

This is one tip that will give you more time to mingle with your guests and enjoy your own party. Save yourself from fixing, dispensing and rounding drinks all night long.

Other than adding a bar design that matches your motif, you want to make sure that you have something to offer for everyone in the room. Here’s a run-down of the basic drinks you should have ready:

  • Beer. Regardless of the season or the celebration, many alcohol drinkers would still reach for a glass of beer. To do away with the messy stack of beer bottles, find out if you can rent a draught dispenser of a beer of your choosing. These rentals usually come with free beer, typically included in liters.
  • Wines and Spirits. Give priority to serving alcoholic drinks low in carbs. In fact, spirits, which includes pure whisky, vodka, gin, brandy, tequila, and rum have no carbs. Dry wines generally contain lower carbs than others. For wines, you want to make sure you are serving both white and red wines.

If you want to do away with the mess of emptying out wines and spirits into glasses, you can always choose to serve miniature bottles instead. That way, wasting away precious booze may also be minimized, if not avoided.

  • Non-alcoholic drinks. Alternatives to alcoholic drinks are not only useful for your non-alcohol drinking guests. These can also be added to spirits to water down the alcohol, serve as chasers or, mixed with any spirit base to make simple and classic cocktail drinks. Have fresh lemon or lime juice on the bar too which your guests can also easily fix into non alcoholic drinks with tonic water.
  • Water. Keep everyone hydrated. Have a water dispenser ready by the bar. Don’t forget the ice.

Keep the sparklies chilling in the fridge until after close to midnight. You want to make sure that your champagne and other bubbles will pop when the clock strikes 12. Again, for the non-alcoholic drinkers, have sparkling juice ready.

4. Decide on what food to serve.

New Year’s Eve dinner

Again, this depends on whether you are expecting to host a sit-down New Year’s Eve dinner or a standing room only function. If it’s a sit-down dinner, you want to make sure you will be serving at least a three-course dinner consisting of appetizers which you can serve as soon as guests arrive, main course which you serve on the dinner table, and desserts.

On the other hand, larger gatherings typically just call for hors d’oeuvres. Serve something heavier by including pasta, with a choice of oil, white or red sauce. It will also be ideal to include party desserts and spike will be nice.

5.  Think entertainment.

Keep everyone busy and awake until 12 midnight with loud and interesting entertainment. Games for New Year Party will typically work for entertaining a more intimate number of family and relatives. Larger crowds, however, call for live bands or music playing on loud speakers to get people to dance. You can also include a viewing party if there’s a live game or show playing on tv which you and your guests are commonly interested in.

6. Prepare the props.

Photo Booth

Have a photo wall dressed up with your motif where people can have their Instagrammable photos taken for sharing to their networks. Prepare your photo corner with a fascinating set that comes with a complementary backdrop. Have party poppers and noisemakers, like horns, drums, and tambourines ready. Make sure to cover and stylize accordingly with your party theme.

7.  Send out the invites.

Before you start getting busy with the six tips above, make sure you don’t miss sending out the invites. Include an RSVP date and your number so you can be informed beforehand of how many guests you will be catering to on New Year’s Eve.

Now, all you have to do is to glam up yourself. Keep in mind that preparation is key. Finish everything that you can prepare beforehand, including the food, so you spend less time serving your guests and more time actually partying yourself.
